CHEYENNE – After winning the Evanston Invite last weekend, the Rock Springs returned to the pool to bring home a fourth-place finish at the Cheyenne Invitational on Saturday.
With most of the 4A favorites in the field, the Tigers scored 146 points to finish in the fourth position. They were only nine points out of the top three. Campbell County dominated with 266 points while Laramie followed in second with 174.5. It was Kelly Walsh who just edged out Rock Springs for third with 155 points. Scottsbluff rounded out the top five.
Individually, Darwin Anderson continued to pace the team bringing home two more titles. In a close 200 free, Anderson just touched in front of Green River’s Michael Richmond to take the title. Anderson finished with a time of 1:47.64 while Richmond followed in 1:47.85. Teammate Bryan Monzon finished seventh with a 1:55.78.
Anderson’s second title came in the 500 free. He paced the field by over three seconds with a time of 4:55.07. Ron DeFauw brought home a top five in the event finishing fourth with a time of 5:19.49. Parker Newberg came in eighth.
Other Rock Springs top ten’s included Newberg who finished sixth in the 200 IM, James Spicer who finished sixth 100 fly, Monzon who finished eighth in the 100 free, DeFauw who finished fourth in the 100 back and Kade Thomas who finished seventh in the 100 breaststroke.
