ROCK SPRINGS – It looked as if the Western Wyoming Mustangs Volleyball squad was going to face Northwest in the finals as they took an early two set lead on Saturday. Casper came storming back winning the final three sets to end the Mustang’s season.
Casper took a small lead to open game one. With the score tied at seven, Western went on a 7-1 run to take a 13-8 lead. Casper never rebounded from the run as the Mustangs took game one, 25-16. The second game also started even with the teams trading points. Western took a 7-6 lead and was able to get some breathing room taking a 14-10 advantage. WWCC was able to maintain the advantage and pulled away at the end as they took a two set lead with a 25-18 win.
From there, it was all Casper. In the third set, the T-Birds were able to take a small lead. Moving deeper in the the set Casper broke away to take a seven-point lead and rolled from there to take the 25-16 win. With the score tied at seven in the fourth set, Casper went on a 7-3 run to take a 14-10 lead. The Mustangs remained close but just couldn’t get closer than four. At the end, WWCC got within three but Casper evened the match at two with a 25-21 win.
With everything on the line, Western took a 5-4 lead to start the fifth. Casper was able to even the set at seven and then jumped up by two, 11-9. The Mustangs battled back to even the game again at 12. Western could only manage one point after that as Casper moved to the finals, ending the Mustangs season with a 15-13 win in the fifth and deciding set.
