ROCK SPRINGS — Will the Rock Springs City Council reconsider rehashing the issue of allowing chickens within city limits?

That’s still up in the air after tonight’s Council meeting.

During a lengthy public comment portion of the Council meeting, several residents approached the Council to speak in favor of asking it to revisit an ordinance that would allow chickens within city limits and asked the city to revisit the ordinance discussed back in 2013.

Rock Springs resident Mackenzie Bertagnolli, who has 12 chickens, once again asked the Council to consider revisiting an ordinance allowing for chickens. During a previous meeting, Bertagnolli asked for the ordinance to be revisited after animal control recently showed up at her house informing her that chickens were not allowed within city limits. Not only did she ask the Council to revisit the issue, she provided the Councilors with a proposed ordinance she came up with on her own.

After hearing from all of the Councilors, it appears the Council is split on whether or not it wants to bring the issue back up. So far, the Councilors have been receiving phone calls and emails about the issue and the majority are saying those are also split about 50/50.

Due to the length of the meeting and all the discussion that took place, the rest of this story will be written tomorrow.
