Child Development Center Regional Coordinator Ann Owen retiring

Sweetwater County Child Development Center press release:

The Sweetwater County Child Development Center (SCCDC) Board of Directors is pleased to announce that they have been working on a series of activities that will help make positive changes to the overall organization, which was first established on July 1, 1979 and has been serving children of Sweetwater County for the past 34 years.

The mission of the SCCDC is to improve the quality of life of children with and without disabilities and their families through an early developmental education and therapy program.

Board Chairperson Dr. Cristy Magagna said the SCCDC would be working closely with the United Way of Southwest Wyoming to accomplish their goals. This is accomplished without any direct cost to the children’s families.

The SCCDC reached one of their long-term goals when they began the search for a permanent place to call their home. In 2010, the residents of Sweetwater County passed a special 6th cent sales tax to allow the construction a new building in Green River and the renovation of the existing structure in Rock Springs.

On Wednesday, July 17, 2013 the SCCDC will be hosting a ribbon-cutting and building dedication for the new Green River facility, which is owned by the City of Green River. The board has heard that Governor Matt Mead will be in attendance as the celebration takes stage at 4:30 pm and runs until 6:30 pm.

“The public is invited to attend this event and help celebrate the children of our community and the services we provide them,” said Regina Clark, Treasurer of the Board of Directors.

At a recent SCCDC Board of Directors meeting, the board accepted the retirement of Ann Owen, the organization’s Regional Coordinator. The board announced they will begin the formal search for a replacement coordinator and have started planning for the reorganization of the SCCDC. The reorganization will include strategic planning, budget cuts of almost 7%, and a request for an internal audit of the overall organization. The organization’s operational documents, staffing, and programs will be reviewed and changes will be made.

“United Way supports the work of CDC and looks forward to a continued partnership while the reorganization takes place,” said Kathy Tacke, Executive Co-Director of United Way.

During this process, the board will ensure that the staff maintains the high quality services provided by the SCCDC and that services to students are not hindered.

“The board has come together to make hard decisions, but decisions that will move the organization forward into the future,” said board secretary Kathy Hodges.

The board also changed the date of their upcoming board meeting. Originally the meeting was scheduled for July 16, 2013 in Rock Springs, but the members rescheduled this meeting for July 18, 2013 at 7:00 pm. The meeting has been moved to Green River, due to the construction in Rock Springs. The public is welcome to attend this meeting. Other board members include John Hastert, Joyce Corcoran, Vanessa Behrens and Steven Powell.
