SWEETWATER COUNTY — In May 2007, PacifiCorp launched the Energy Gateway Transmission Expansion, which is a multi-year investment plan to add approximately 2,000 miles of new transmission lines across the West.
Gateway West transmission expansion includes several segments including Segment D, which partially runs through Sweetwater County. The Sweetwater County Commission will hear an update on this project during its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, September 6. The meeting will start at 8:30 a.m. at the Sweetwater County Courthouse.
Subsegment D.3, known as the Bridger/Anticline to Populus, will be the project discussed on Tuesday. According to PacifiCorp, this specific project is a single-circuit 500 kilovolt line running approximately 200 miles between the new annex substation (Anticline) near Point of Rocks, to the existing Populus substation near Downey, Idaho.
The construction of subsegment D.3 is part of PacifiCorp’s 2021 Integrated Resource Plan, which outlines the company’s vision for the west between now and 2040. The goal of the project is to continue growth into a grid powered by clean energy, and connect and optimize diverse, clean resources across the west with a strengthened and modernized transmission network.
The Gateway West subsegment D.3 transmission segment is planned to be placed in service November 2027. According to meeting documents, PacifiCorp is currently in the designing and engineering stage of the project.
