COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — With the first session of the 2022 NJCAA Wrestling Championships in the books, the Western Wyoming Community College (Western) Mustangs sit one point out of first place.

Garrett Ricks (125), Joseph Mecham (133), Caleb Nathan (141), River Wardle (149), Collin Smith (165), Christian Smoot (174), Tyce Raddon (184) and Tyler Scheurn (197) sit one victory away from stamping their ticket into Saturday’s semifinals.

The other two Western wrestlers, Riggen Cordingley (157) and Koby Johnson (285) have each only lost one match and will compete in the third round of the consolation bracket.

Through the first two rounds of the tournament, Western has put up 38.5 points. The team has had nine pins, which has helped maintain a third place in the standings for the Mustangs. Half of the team’s pins have come from Raddon and Cordingley who each have two.

Western will wrestle the championship quarterfinals and third and fourth round consolation rounds tonight at 5:15 p.m. You can follow along or watch the wrestling live on Flo Wrestling.
