Fireman’s Association Warns of Phone Scam

WYOMING — The Wyoming State Fireman’s Association is warning residents of a phone scam operating in the state.

The calls originate from the 307 area code and the caller claims to represent the Wyoming State Fireman’s Association. The caller asks for donations to help “burned children throughout the state” and offers to take credit card or checking account information over the phone.

The Wyoming State Fireman’s Association does not solicit any donations over the phone. However, the W.S.F.A. does operate an annual raffle ticket sale in conjunction with the State Fire Convention to be held in Riverton in June. These tickets are tracked and sold by local firefighters throughout the state between the months of January and June 2016.

Chief Wamsley of the Rock Springs Fire Department suggests that all questions regarding any fundraising for burn victims be referred to the local fire department for verification.
