SWEETWATER COUNTY — Jacob Anthony Triplett, 27 of Rock Springs has pleaded no-contest to murder in the second degree, two counts of child abuse and three counts of aggravated child abuse.
Jacob Anthony Triplett is being charged with the death of his four-month-old daughter Susan Triplett. Her death occurred in September of 2014 due to severe malnutrition and dehydration.
The latest hearing took place in the 3rd Judicial District Court of Judge Nena James Friday morning.
Jacob Triplett’s plea was entered as part of a plea agreement that reduced the first-degree murder charge to murder in the second degree.
The plea agreement is still being worked out, and no sentencing has been recommended. Neither side has yet committed to anything and both sides are free to argue for the highest and lowest possible sentences.
Trippett could face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment on the second-degree charge.

His wife Amanda Dawn Triplett pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and two counts of child abuse in August of 2015 and is awaiting sentencing.
The couple initially pleaded not-guilty to all charges. Both faced the same set of multiple charges including, murder in the first degree, three counts of aggravated child abuse and three counts of accessory to aggravated child abuse.

Susan Triplett’s death and the alleged abuse suffered by her siblings at their parent’s hands shocked and outraged the community. An emotional candlelight vigil was held in her and her siblings’ honor on September 30th, 2014.
Jacob Triplett’s sentencing will take place at a later date.
