Fleet Manager
SAGE ELECTRIC SOLUTIONS, LLC is seeking an experienced, dependable, and highly organized Fleet Manager to oversee the daily operations, safety, maintenance, compliance, material handling, and overall management of our company fleet.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing commercial vehicles and drivers and must have a strong working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations and compliance requirements. This position requires someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, safety-conscious, and capable of maintaining accurate records while ensuring that our fleet, equipment, materials, and drivers remain safe, compliant, and operating efficiently.
The Fleet Manager will be responsible for overseeing the company's vehicles, trailers, and equipment. Responsibilities will include coordinating routine and preventative maintenance, scheduling repairs, tracking inspections, monitoring vehicle conditions, and ensuring vehicles and trailers are properly maintained and available when needed. The Fleet Manager will also monitor vehicle registrations, insurance requirements, inspections, maintenance records, and other required documentation.
A strong understanding of vehicle mechanics and basic mechanical troubleshooting is required. The Fleet Manager should be able to recognize common mechanical problems, identify when a vehicle or trailer needs service, communicate effectively with mechanics and repair facilities, and help determine whether equipment is safe to operate.
The position will also require hands-on knowledge of material handling. The Fleet Manager will help coordinate the safe loading, unloading, transportation, and organization of materials, tools, and equipment used by the electrical company. The candidate must understand the importance of properly securing loads and ensuring that materials and equipment are transported safely and efficiently.
Experience and confidence with driving vehicles with trailers is required. The successful candidate should understand safe trailer operation, including connecting and disconnecting trailers, trailer inspections, proper loading and weight distribution, backing and maneuvering trailers, and securely transporting materials and equipment.
A major responsibility of this position will be DOT and FMCSA compliance. The Fleet Manager will maintain and monitor driver qualification files, CDL and license requirements, hours-of-service compliance, vehicle inspection records, and other required DOT documentation. The Fleet Manager will also assist with preparing for DOT audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
The Fleet Manager will monitor driver compliance and safety, address violations or concerns, maintain accurate driver records, and ensure company policies and federal regulations are followed. This position will work closely with management and drivers to promote a strong safety culture and reduce accidents, violations, vehicle downtime, and unnecessary operating expenses.
The Fleet Manager must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and related Office applications. The candidate must be comfortable creating and maintaining spreadsheets, preparing reports, managing electronic records, communicating through email, organizing documentation, and using Microsoft Office to track fleet, maintenance, driver, insurance and compliance information.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have a clean driving record
- Previous fleet management experience
- Strong knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations
- Experience managing commercial vehicles and drivers
- Experience with trailers and trailer operations
- Ability to safely drive and maneuver vehicles with trailers
- Knowledge of proper loading, unloading, and securing of materials
- Experience with material handling and transportation of tools and equipment
- Basic knowledge of vehicle and trailer mechanics
- Ability to identify common mechanical issues and determine when repairs are necessary
- Knowledge of driver qualification and compliance requirements
- Experience maintaining DOT records and documentation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to monitor and enforce safety and compliance standards
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Experience with fleet management software, GPS/fleet tracking systems, maintenance scheduling systems, and electronic logging devices (ELDs) is preferred.
