ROCK SPRINGS – After two weeks of research, deliberation, and voting, Lincoln Elementary students and staff have decided on the school mascot as well as the school colors.
Research began the first week of school in which each classroom came up with a potential mascot, including support and evidence for why that mascot would be fitting for Lincoln Elementary. All of the entries were then compiled and the ideas that had multiple submissions were voted on by the students.
The four mascot options that were voted on included: Eagles, Cheetahs, Leopards, and Tiger Cubs. The winning mascot was tiger cubs and the school’s identity will now be the Lincoln Cubs.
The meaning behind the mascot explains why this was the decision of the students. Tiger cubs are intelligent, loyal, and courageous. These are attributes that all students need in order to succeed in school as well as stand up to injustices that they see happening around them. Tiger cubs are also adventurous, early leaders, and quick learners and being such allows tiger cubs to survive in the wild from a very early age.
It is important that students also learn how to be leaders and adventurous in order to learn as much as possible all the while helping their fellow students learn. There is also a variety of colors that tiger cubs are born with, showing that even thought their coats may be different colors, they are all of the same species.
The tiger cubs mascot also represents the students in Sweetwater County School District #1 who will grow to become Rock Springs High School Tigers. Although they are young and small now, the Lincoln Cubs will one day be at the top of the district foodchain.
The decision of school colors came to a verdict at the same time as the mascot.
Tiger cubs come in many different colors, so there were numerous colors to choose from.
The students settled on silver, blue, and white.
Researching and then voting on a mascot adds a layer of loyalty and involvement for the students attending Lincoln Elementary. Their identity was chosen by them and will leave a legacy for all future students. Having a mascot and colors also allows Lincoln students to have their own individuality while working with other schools in the district, unifying the student body as the Lincoln Cubs.
