Aquaponics is the art of growing plants and fish together in a mutually supportive environment. There are a number of ways to create aquaponic gardens that range from small, in-home systems to large, commercial-sized ones. Common household, non-food aquaponics systems can be found in many homes where a Betta fish is paired with a peace lily or vining philodendron.

Instead of ornamental plants, you can grow food such as herbs or greens right in your kitchen. It is a way to produce food in a controlled environment that allows for organic production and increased yield. There are a number of different home systems, some as small as a few square feet that can be stocked with a few edible fish, and a wide variety of food producing plants.

Attendees will be introduced to a number of different systems and provided information about how they work, including the benefits of growing plants with an aquaponics system.
