ROCK SPRINGS – The Rock Springs Bantam Miners returned home for two games against Pinedale this weekend.
Pinedale has not lost a game this season while the Miners entered with two wins on the season. Pinedale is one of the highest scoring teams as they arrived in Rock Springs scoring over 60 goals in their first five games.
In the first game, it was all Pinedale early as they scored nine in the first two periods to take a 9-0 lead. The Miners came alive in the final period and outscored their opponents four goals to three.
Despite the 12-4 loss, Rock Springs goalie Isaac Schoenfeld finished with 30 saves. Shane Johnson had all four goals while Logan Marroquin added an assist for the Miners. Damion Williams had five goals for Pinedale while Fender Leo Allison added three in the win.
The Rock Springs Miners had a much better second game. It was another quick start by Pinedale that proved to be the difference. They scored five in the first period to take the 5-0 lead. The Miners scored two in the second period but were unable to cut into the lead after that as Pinedale took a 9-2 win.
After finishing with 30 saves in the first game, Schoenfeld stopped 47 of the 56 Pinedale shots. Brody Costigan scored the first Miner goal on assists from Shane Johnson and Kadden Wagner. Johnson scored the second goal on an assist from Kyler VanValkenburg.
Jayden Currah scored four goals and Damion Williams scored four goals and had seven assists to lead Pinedale.
Upcoming home games for the Bantams are currently scheduled on Jan. 28 at 6:30 p.m. and Jan. 29 at 9 a.m. against Douglas and Feb. 11 at 4:45 p.m. and Feb. 12 at 11:15 a.m. against Gillette. Games take place at the Rock Springs Family Recreation Center.
