ROCK SPRINGS – One month after reporting the most successful event they have had, the local motocross club was back at the Sweetwater County Fair Board with better news.
Rock Springs Club Motocross President Wes Smith reported this past weekend’s races were the best they have had and topped the races last month. He said they had 114 racers on Saturday and 118 on Sunday. He added there were a lot of racers from out of town including several racers from Cody and Gillette.
“It is the best we have had it quite some time,” Smith said.
The group is preparing for the next indoor races on March 22-23. Smith said they will be cooking hamburgers at the races.
After being asked about the Loretta Lynn events, Smith said they are currently getting all the paperwork to become American Motocross Association sanctioned. He said they have to have one AMA sanctioned event to qualify. They want to use the state championship race as the sanctioned event.
The Loretta Lynn packets come out in August and Smith said the organizers are positive about Rock Springs.
“There is not an event in Wyoming,” Smith explained. “If we follow through the prospect is pretty high.”
