COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — Western Wyoming Community College (WWCC) wrestler Mason Christiansen punched his ticket Thursday morning to the championship round of the 2021 NJCAA Wrestling Championships.
Christiansen defeated Jacobi Deal from Northwest Kansas Tech in the championship semifinals 13-9. The last man standing between Christiansen and the 174 national title is Iowa Central’s Jose Rodriguez, who he will wrestle tonight at 6 pm.
Western went into Thursday’s third session of the tournament with 10 All-Americans — the most of all teams competing. The Mustangs made NJCAA history when they placed all 10 wrestlers, something no team has done since the NJCAA championship was established in 1964.

The Mustangs currently hold onto the top spot in the team standings with 147 points. That’s just half a point ahead of Clackamas, who has two wrestlers in the championship rounds tonight. Needless to say, it’s going to be a tight race between WWCC and Clackamas for the team title.
