COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — Western Wyoming Community College (Western) wrestler Garrett Ricks earned his way to the championship round of the 2022 NJCAA Wrestling Championships.
Ricks pinned Nicolas Aguilar from Clackamas in the championship semifinals at the 3:34 mark. The last man standing between Ricks and the 125 national title is Iowa Western’s Jakason Burks, who he will wrestle tonight at 6 pm.

Western went into Saturday’s third session of the tournament with seven All-Americans. Christian Smoot (174) and Tyce Raddon (184) battled their way to the consolation championship matches where they both won, earning third place in their weight divisions. Joseph Mecham (133) and Caleb Nathan (141) earned sixth place, while River Warlde (149) and Tyler Scheurn (197) finished in seventh place.
The Mustangs currently sit fourth in the team standings with 112.5 points. It will be a tight race to the finish as Iowa Western and Niaac both have a handful of wrestlers in the championship round.
