CHEYENNE – The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) and State Board of Education will hold five regional community meetings to allow an opportunity for Wyoming residents to give input to the Science Standards Review Committee.
Each meeting will include a presentation on the standards review process, an update on Wyoming’s science standards, and time for the public to comment.
“We want our students, through high science standards, to become more intelligent science consumers,” said Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow. “We want our students to compete locally, nationally and globally. Our future is dependent on students who have a high level of science knowledge, and we do that first and foremost through having the best science standards for Wyoming students.”
The regional community meetings will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the following locations:
May 26, Powell High School Cafeteria, 1151 E. 7th Street, Powell.
May 27, Gillette College, Tec136 Flex Space, 300 W. Sinclair, Gillette.
May 28, Natrona #1 Central Services Facility, Jefferson East Room, 970 N. Glenn Road, Casper.
June 8, Storey Gym Board Room, 2811 House Avenue, Cheyenne.
June 9, Evanston High School, Seminar Room, 701 W. Cheyenne Drive, Evanston.
WDE personnel will present comments received during these meetings to the members of Science Standards Review Committee before they meet June 15-16 in Casper. Once the proposed standards are released, additional public comment periods will follow.
