ROCK SPRINGS – Rock Springs Library is focusing on the “boom” at its Fizz…Boom…READ! summer reading event on July 23.
Officer Doug Losey from the Green River Police Department and the Sweetwater Bomb Squad will be on hand to talk to those in attendance about what the bomb squad does – and he’ll have some equipment and robots on hand to help out. The program will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 23 in the parking lot across from the library on C Street.
The Sweetwater Bomb Squad is a cooperative agency that works with all of the police departments in the area.
Losey said he will bring the bomb squad’s truck and trailer to the event to show the kids the equipment they use. He will also bring robots – bomb disposal robots – that the bomb squad uses.
The program will include a hands-on portion, but don’t worry, it will be safe. Losey said the kids will be able to hold a flash tube. The tube has lights that flash through it and go off at the end. “It’s cool because you can see the light going through the kids hands,” he said.
Losey will also include time for questions and answers about the bomb squad. “It’s a good time for kids – or adults – to find out about what we do,” he said.
This program is part of the library’s weekly Fizz…Boom…READ! summer reading events. Rock Springs Library is hosting events at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays weekly this summer. To go along with this year’s theme, the programs have a science focus and include science experiments, crafts, books and more.
