ROCK SPRINGS – Several events will be in front of the Rock Springs City Council on Tuesday. These include requests for street closures during the Red Desert Roundup Rodeo Parade, a request for an outdoor party by the Bareback Saloon which has been tabled for several weeks and another malt beverage permit request from the Bitter Sweet Bombshells.

For as long as most of us remember, the Red Desert Roundup Parade and Rodeo has been a major event in the community. This year, the parade will take place on Saturday, July 26, beginning at 10 a.m.

The staging area for the parade will begin at B and Broadway and then C and Broadway if necessary. They will line both sides of the streets to get started.

The parade route will begin at B and Broadway, heading east on Broadway, under the underpass, continuing on M Street, left on Pilot Butte to K Street; K St. to North Front to Elk; left on Grant to the A Street Overpass.

The rodeo committee is asking permission to close the downtown area streets on the morning of July 26 beginning at 6 a.m. until approximately noon to make room for this event.

Bareback Saloon

During the first Rock Springs Council meeting in June, the Bareback Saloon requested permission for an outdoor event on Aug. 2 from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. The request was tabled at the meeting after the council asked for more information on the event.

At the last meeting, the request remained on the table. Mayor Carl Demshar said the city had not received any of the information requested but were asked to leave it on the table for one more meeting to give the Bareback more time to provide it.

Bitter Sweet Bombshells

After a very successful first ever bout on May 31, the Bitter Sweet Bombshells are preparing for the Superhero Smack Down Roller Derby Bout on July 19. The group is requesting a malt beverage permit from the bout on July 19, 2014, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Rock Springs Family Recreation Center.

International Day

The council will take action on a request from the International Day, Inc. for two malt beverage permits for International Day. One on July 11 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and the second for July 12 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Bunning Park.

Other Event requests

Other request the Rock Springs City Council will take action on include a request from Santa Fe Southwest Grill for permission to transfer their liquor license to cater the Jim Bridger Power Plant Employee Picnic on July 12, 2014, at Crossroads Park from Noon – 4 p.m. This also requires approval from the Sweetwater County Commissioners.

Santa Fe is also asking permission to transfer their liquor license to cater OCI’s Service Awards Banquet on Aug. 11 at the Green River Pavillion from 5:30 p.m. to midnight. This also needs approval from the Green River City Council.

The final request from Santa Fe is to transfer their liquor license to cater Solvay’s Annual Employee Picnic on July 26 at Pioneer Trails from Noon to 4:30 p.m. This also requires approval from the Sweetwater County Commissioners.

Lodging Tax

This fall’s election will include an option to continue support of the 2 percent Lodging Tax and add an increase of 1 percent. The council will vote on a resolution to support the tax approval.

Leisure and hospitality is a $183 million industry in Sweetwater County that provides over 1,500 full and part-time jobs. The tax is mainly paid by visitors who stay in hotels, motels, campgrounds and similar establishments.

The Wyoming lodging tax statute states that the lodging tax is to be used for the primary purpose of promoting local travel and tourism.

Presentations

There will be two presentations at Tuesday night’s meeting.

The first will be by Joint Powers Water Board General Manager Fred Ostler. The second will be by the Rock Springs/Sweetwater County Airport to discuss the minimum revenue guarantee.
