GREEN RIVER — The Riverview Cemetery in Green River will receive a new granite columbarium, which will cost about $34,440.
The Green River City Council unanimously approved the purchase of the columbarium during its meeting Tuesday night. Riverview Cemetery currently has three columbariums for above-ground placement of cremains.
According to Doug Stewart, Green River Parks and Facilities Supervisor, this method of burial has become increasing popular and demand has increased at Riverview Cemetery since the start of the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.
The current columbarium only has 11 niches, or spaces, left for sale. Stewart believes at the rate the niches are being sold, they will all be gone by the end of the year.
The new columbarium will be a 144 niche columbarium, provided by Coldspring. Coldspring also provided the 2015 columbarium, and the new columbarium will match the existing structures at Riverview Cemetery, Stewart said.
