Rock Springs Chamber: No handouts at the Lighted Parade this year over safety concerns

ROCK SPRINGS – The Lighted Holiday Parade has been a tradition in Rock Springs for the past 15 years, and the Rock Springs Chamber of Commerce and the City of Rock Springs are excited to host this event for the 16th year. The parade has been a wonderful event that brings residents to downtown Rock Springs. Families of all ages and sizes unite at the Parade to celebrate the season and one another.

There will be some changes in the rules for the Lighted Holiday Parade this year. These changes are a proactive approach to ensure that every child and resident stays safe during the whole event. This year, floats will not be able to hand out anything during the parade. This includes candy, coupons, promotional information, or anything else. There will be extra law enforcement placed along the parade route to ensure that this rule is strictly followed. The danger in anything being handed out, even if it is not thrown, but handed directly to an attendee, is there are large vehicles in the parade, it is dark outside, and the roads may be slick due to weather conditions. All of these circumstances make spotting a child extremely difficult and it is of the utmost importance that all children and residents remain safe throughout the entirety of the parade.

In the past, floats were allowed to hand candy and other materials to attendees, however, the Rock Springs Chamber of Commerce and the City of Rock Springs feels that having people come into the streets of the parade route raises the possibility of someone getting unintentionally injured.
