ROCK SPRINGS – The Rock Springs Miners finished second at the state tournament after an exciting game against Park County on Sunday that went into overtime.
After an undefeated season, the Rock Springs Miners took control at the state tournament going undefeated and earning a spot in the championship game. On Saturday, they shut out both Casper and Park County to move into the championship game.
The Miners lost a close one in Sunday’s State Championship Girls Hockey game against Park County (Cody). After leading much of the game, Cody tied it up at 2-2 which led to sudden death overtime. After no score in OT, Rock Springs and Cody’s goalies continued to keep the puck out of the net. The first shootout left the game tied with Cody eventually defeating Rock Springs in the second shootout ending the exciting championship match. Rock Springs Miners lost 3-2 to Cody.
This was the fourth time these two teams met this season with the Miners beating the Ice Cats the first three games.
After the game, several Miners were rewarded with all-state honors. Katie Noomen and Darcee Pummell were rewarded as all-state forwards, Kylie Larsen and Zeairra Pummell earned all-state defensemen, and Alicia Stevens was named all-state as the goaltender.
