Rock Springs Motocross built a new podium as they prepare for the State Championships on Sept. 5. The club thanked Henry Panzer, Randal Berger, and Home Depot for donating material and Bryan Cox and Dana Anderson for helping with the project.

ROCK SPRINGS – Rock Springs Motocross is putting the final pieces in place for the Wyoming State Championships at the Sweetwater Events Complex. The championships will also be a historic day for the local club.

On Sept. 5, top riders from around the state will meet in Rock Springs to decide who is the best of the best in the state. The championships will conclude on Sept. 7. Rock Springs Motocross will also take a huge step forward as the weekend races will be the first American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) sanctioned race for Rock Springs Motocross.

Recently, the club received its AMA certification. President of the Rock Springs Motocross Wes Smith explained they needed to receive certification and have one sanctioned AMA race if they wanted to be considered as a host site for a Loretta Lynn qualifier.

The Loretta Lynn Qualifying races are set up throughout the nation as riders from all over compete. The top riders of the qualifiers are then invited to Loretta Lynn’s ranch for the finals. At the recent Sweetwater Events Complex board meeting, Smith explained they have turned in the application for the qualifier. He added that since turning in the application, he has been in contact with the event organizers and was informed the application looked good and it was forwarded on. While they are hoping for possible approval in 2015, Smith told the board they are definitely shooting for 2016.

Smith invited board members to come out to the State Championship races as there will be food and the Wade Wilson Project will be playing Saturday night at the state race.

At the meeting, Smith also gave a report from the Wild West Series races which took place on Aug.15-17. While he did not have solid figures he estimated about 450 riders competed over the weekend.

“The R.V. parking was as full as it has ever been,” Smith said.

The Rock Springs Motocross club also presented the Sweetwater Events Complex with a plaque for all the support the complex staff gives them throughout the year. Smith said without the help and support they are given from the complex, these races would not be as successful as they have been recently.

Events Complex Director Larry Lloyd said he has received a lot of positive comments from the public as well as from racers. He told Smith and the board Rock Springs Motocross has came a long way due to the hard work of everyone involved in these events.
