ROCK SPRINGS – The City of Rock Springs Master Plan has been recognized by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for best practice in Hazard Mitigation.
The selection was based on the integration of Hazard Mitigation into the local planning mechanism.
These Best Practices will ultimately be uploaded to FEMA’s Mitigation Best Practices Portfolio https://www.fema.gov/mitigation-best-practices-portfolio, where they can be accessed by other communities interested in plan integration.
This effort follows on the heels of the recent release of FEMA’s Integrating Hazard Mitigation Into Local Planning report (https://www.fema.gov/media-library/assets/documents/31372?id=7130), which provides guidance to assist local officials to better understand integration.
City Planner, Jennifer Shields, stated “I am happy to have all of the hard work that was put into the Master Plan be acknowledged and ultimately be able to help other communities. It was a labor of love to have the Master Plan completed and I appreciate everyone who helped throughout the process.”
