ROCK SPRINGS – With the Rock Springs Main Street/Urban Renewal Agency settling into its new home, the train depot has once again become available for community events. On Tuesday, the Rock Springs City Council approved a new fee schedule for the rental of the buildings.
The Rock Springs Building Committee has met a couple of times to look at the fees. Councilman David Tate said they also sat down with Main Street/URA Director Chad Banks to discuss the fee schedule.
The fees for the Broadway Theater will remain the same. Tate said they did not change these rates because they were set by the Broadway Theater Board. Tate also explained the Main Street/URA will handle the rentals for the theater and Bunning Transfer Building while the mayor’s office would handle the rentals of the Train Depot and the Community Center which is the old Senior Center.
The only major change made was to the deposit involving alcohol. Alcohol may be consumed on the premises. If the event is professionally catered, proof of professional catering must be provided along with proof of liquor liability insurance naming the city of Rock Springs as an additional insured.
If alcohol will be served without a professional caterer an additional $250 alcohol deposit will be required. If, in the estimation of staff, all signs of alcohol have been removed -both inside and outside of the building, the deposit will be refunded to the renter.
The second change made was the time frame when the buildings could be rented. Tate said currently it only allows for the buildings to be rented out 30 days in advance. He said they would like to change this to a year to better serve the community.
The facility may be used for parties, dinners, classes, etc. It may also be used for expos, sales events, trade shows, etc.
The city also has a facility use policy which encompasses about every facility the city has. Rock Springs Mayor Carl Demshar said this policy will need to be updated before they can start renting the transfer building to the public. He said this should be completed in April.
Demshar said he also talked with Banks and was told the only events scheduled for the building at this time are city-sponsored events. He said he has been in the building several times and it is “an impressive” building. He said the back area, which most of the older residents know as the freight area, is going to be a great addition for events in the downtown.
