RS Council Honors Former RSFD Fire Chief and Hears Updates on International Day and Vietnam Memorial

ROCK SPRINGS – Honoring a fallen former Rock Springs Fire Chief an hearing wrap-up reports on International Day and the traveling Vietnam Wall were topicsĀ during the Rock Springs Council Board Reports on Tuesday.

After opening it up for board reports, Councilman Jason Armstrong honored an important figure in Rock Springs. Armstrong sent his condolences to the Cozad family on the passing of Harvey Cozad.

Harvey was born June 18, 1947 in Wheatland, the son of Clifford and Marie (Gilbert) Cozad. He married Dianne Jones and to this union had four children, Elva Marie Cozad, Richard Allen Cozad, Clifford Dean Cozad, and Dawn Marie Cozad.Ā Ā Harvey and DiAnne later divorced.Ā Ā He remarried and divorced Kathy Pascoe.

Harvey moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming in 1975.Ā Ā He was hired by the City of Rock Springs Fire Department in 1977.Ā Ā Harvey was Rock Springs Fire Chief from 1980 to 1995 at which time he retired and returned to Wheatland.

He enjoyed fishing, boating, and hunting.

Harvey is survived by his children, Richard Cozad (Misty) of Rock Springs, Clifford Cozad of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Dawn Cozad of Mesa, Arizona; thirteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, Richard E. Cozad; several nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends; and his best friend and companion, Damn It his Australian Shepard.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Howard Cozad; daughter, Elva Cozad; and grandson, Ryan Cozad.

A funeral service is plannedĀ at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 23, at the Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel in Wheatland. Ā Another funeral service for Harvey will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25, at the Rock Springs Christian Church, 124 Second Street, Rock Springs.

Harvey Ā passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, July 19, following a lengthy illness.

 

International Day

Councilman David Tate gave a brief update on International Day. This year, International Day came on the heels of several days of flooding.

Tate said the event went very well and wanted to thank everyone who helped to make this year’s event successful. Tate sent a special thanks to the Rock Springs Streets Department and the Rock Springs Parks Department for all the extra work they put in. Tate said the departments were instrumental in getting everything prepared for the event after the flooding to start the week.

 

Vietnam Memorial

The final report of the night was from Councilman Tim Savage. Savage thanked Tony Blair, Western Wyoming Community College and all those who were involved in bringing the traveling Vietnam Wall Memorial to Sweetwater County. Savage said over 10,000 people visited the wall while it was on display at the college.

Mayor Carl Demshar agreed with Savage saying having the memorial was ā€œvery good for the community.ā€
