ROCK SPRINGS – Keeping up with infrastructure is a challenge for any city. The Rock Springs City Council approved to go out to bid on several local projects.
The council looked at the bid request from the Rock Springs Department of Engineering and Operations on Tuesday. Among the projects include phase two of the 2015 concrete replacement and phase two of the 2015 Crack Sealing project.
Head of the city’s engineering department, Paul Kauchich said these projects will continue the required maintenance programs for various streets, curbs, gutters and sidewalks throughout the City.
In addition, Kauchich requested permission to bid the Gateway Tank Rehabilitation project. This project will rehabilitate the interior and exterior of the Gateway Water Tank located at Western Wyoming Community College.
This water tank project was a budgeted item and is funded through the Water Enterprise Account.
Councilman Tim Savage asked Kauchich to explain in more detail about the streets, curb, gutter and sidewalk program in the city.
The program is designed to help local homeowners with these issues. The city of Rock Springs pays for curbs and gutters and 50 percent of the sidewalks. Kauchich said the other 50 percent is paid for by the homeowner and is paid directly to the contractor upon completion.
Any homeowner can call the Rock Springs Engineering Department to be added to the program list. Kauchich explained they then prioritize this list putting senior residents and areas with significant safety issues on top.
Kauchich stressed to residents they will need to first call and be added to the program list before the city will look at their request.
