ROCK SPRINGS — The Rock Springs Rotary Club’s large flag was due to be replaced today before the morning flag lowering ceremony. However the flag didn’t arrive until the afternoon.
Jennie from UPS delivered the new flag which is hardened against high winds.
Ken Wilbert with Rock Springs Rotary sent this info:
“We had purchased a new giant flag several weeks ago and it was intended to be here in time for the 9/11 ceremony. Unfortunately, it arrived this pm. Attached is a pic of “Jennie” the local UPS driver delivering the new flag. The new flag is 30’ x 60’, weighs 87 pounds and is the same size as is flying now. Jennie could handle this box by herself and did not need my help! In fact she did it twice: once to deliver to my door and then back to her truck so we could take the picture. She was so excited to know that what she was delivering was the giant flag—she couldn’t believe there was just one flag in the box. She knew the flag was big but not to the extent of the dimensions I told her.” – Ken Wilbert, Rock Springs Rotary
The flag was purchased from Colonial Flags in Sandy, UT for $1800.00. Colonial Flags is the shop we see as we drive along I-15 south of Salt Lake City on the west side of the freeway. The flag is made of polyester with extra stitching designed for high wind conditions.
In the past, the flag has lasted about 2 weeks before it starts to rip. Hopefully this flag, made of a different material, will last longer.
Each time it is repaired, the flag is shortened some and costs over $50 to repair. Jim’s Upholstery of Rock Springs has been very generous to the Rotary Club in making these repairs for minimal cost.
