ROCK SPRINGS — When Jane Fellbaum found out she was selected to attend Envision’s
National Youth Leadership Forum: Pathways to Stem program, she was beyond excited.
Fellbaum was so surprised because she didn’t even know that her principal Tina Searle at Eastside Elementary School had nominated her.
“I feel really happy that my principal picked me because I knew I was doing something right,” Fellbaum said.
Fellbaum was a sixth-grade student at Eastside Elementary in the 2019-2020 school year and received the nomination then, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic the event was delayed until this summer. Fellbaum, who just finished her seventh-grade year at the Rock Springs Junior High School, doesn’t care if the program was delayed and is just happy to be able to attend.
In July, Fellbaum will join outstanding middle-school students from across the nation to take part in a unique academic and career-oriented development experience, Pathways to Stem at the University of Denver, Co.
This program is one of the Envision by WorldStrides family of programs that enable students to explore their interests and experience learning beyond the classroom.
“As an alumna of Envision myself, I am excited for Jane to meet, work, and collaborate with other high-aspiring students from across the country,” Amanda Freitag Thomas, SVP for Envision said in a press release. “Hands down, my favorite part of attending an Envision program was being with motivated students in an environment designed to help us challenge our assumptions, meet new people, and grow.
Fellbaum said she is looking forward to attending the forum, making new friends, and staying in a dorm while at the event.
“I think this will be my first big trip,” Fellbaum said.
Fellbaum was allowed to select courses at the forum that peaked her interest so she choose medicine, political science, engineering, and robotics classes. She has always been interested in politics and has been following the Black Lives Matter movement closely. Fellbaum would like to be an attorney or a politician some day.
Some of her favorite classes are social studies, physical education, and art. When she’s not busy with school, she enjoys being on the track team and playing soccer and softball. She also is on the student council and is in the Gifted and Talented program.
