ROCK SPRINGS — Rock Springs High School students brought home 33 blue ribbons, a congressional nomination, and the first lady art award from the Wyoming State Art Symposium. The students received at least one blue ribbon in each category at the symposium.

During the symposium, which took place on April 24-26 in Casper, ribbons were awarded to students by art teachers from around the State of Wyoming.

Rock Springs High School took 100 pieces of art to this year’s show and came back with 33 blue ribbons. Amanda Margrave teaches ceramics, Jasmine Krueger teaches graphic design and drawing, Dave Doporto teaches painting and drawing, and Tania Szewczyk teaches photography and drawing.

“We submitted paintings, drawings, photos, graphic design work/digital art, sculpture and functional ceramics,” Margrave said.

Students’ art pieces are juried and selected for the symposium by the art teachers, she said.

During the symposium, 12 RSHS students attended the event. Margrave said the students enjoyed the art show and the little mini competitions. The RSHS team won the award for “spontaneous sculpture.”

“Our art students had a really strong showing. We have extremely talented and dedicated students. The art students at RSHS represent some of the top artists in the state,” Margrave said. “Our students won ribbons in every category of artwork taken.”

Margrave said the school brought home had two extra awards when Lacie Vasquez won the congressional nomination and Alison Murray won first lady art award. These awards are juried by representatives from Congresswoman Liz Cheney’s office and the Governor Mark Gordon’s office.

Residents who would like to see some of this artwork in person, will want to visit the Community Fine Art Center through May 15.
