Six Mustangs Headed to Quarterfinals in NJCAA Wrestling Championships

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — With the first session of the 2021 NJCAA Wrestling Championships in the books, the Western Wyoming Community College (WWCC) Mustangs sit three points out of first place.
Garrett Ricks (125), Caleb Nathan (141), Anthony Herrera (157), Collin Smith (165), Mason Christiansen (174) and Tyler Scheurn (197) sit one victory away from claiming a spot in Saturday’s semifinals. The six wrestlers are still in the championship bracket and will grapple for one of four spots.
The other four WWCC wrestlers, Destin Summers (133), Cameron Metcalf (149), Andrew Nicholson (184) and Wyatt Kearns (285) have each only lost one match and will compete in the third round of the consolation bracket.

In the first two rounds of the tournament, Western has lit up the scoreboard with 42 team points. The team has had eight pins so far and four technical falls. Four of those eight pins have come from Kearns and Scheurn who each have two.
