ROCK SPRINGS – Superintendent Mathew Neal was recently appointed by the University of Wyoming to lead on the advisory council for the Universities College of Education. Within this capacity the Superintendent will represent the interests of Sweetwater School District #1 as well representing education professionals from across the state.
The purpose of the council is to advise the College of Education at the University of Wyoming on matters pertaining to teacher preparation. The council will advise the Associate Dean of undergraduate studies and the Dean on issues including: accreditation, policy and procedures regarding admission into teacher education programs, curriculum review, policy proposals, and general advisement.
The council will normally meet via conference call each month. As one of the fastest growing districts in the state, Sweetwater County School District # 1 hires a great number of teaching professionals from the University throughout each academic year and therefore is a notable partner in assessing UW’s efforts.
Consensus votes from members of the council will be used to advise the Leadership Council, the Associate Dean, and the Dean. Voting members of the council will serve staggered three year terms, and the Chair of the Council will be elected by members the preceding spring semester.
