SWEETWATER COUNTY – With inspections forcing the Rock Springs Child Development Center to delay its opening until next Monday, Sweetwater County Commission Chairman Wally Johnson voiced his frustration with Rock Springs City Officials.
During the commissioner’s reports portion of the Sweetwater County Commission meeting on Tuesday morning it was explained the construction on the CDC had to delay the opening due to issues in the permitting process. In order for the CDC to get sixth-penny money to do construction, the Sweetwater County Commissioners had to take ownership of the office building on Foothill.
The plan was to have the CDC on the first floor while the county would occupy the second floor. During the permitting process, Rock Springs officials made the CDC remove all the furniture and equipment which was already in place.
Chairman Johnson made it very clear that while the building is in Rock Springs, it is owned by the county along with several other buildings. “The county has professional engineers and inspectors to do the inspections,” Johnson said. “The city of Rock Springs and Green River need to understand that.”
With another county building soon to go through the same inspection process, Johnson said he foresees the same problems recurring. Johnson was referring to the Rock Springs National Bank Building which is being remodeled into a health and resource building.
