Sweetwater County Deputy Hanson Assigned as Special Liaison to Seniors

Deputy Randy Hanson (r) will be visiting the elderly at the senior centers in Rock Springs and Green River as part of his new duties.

GREEN RIVER — Sweetwater County Deputy Sheriff Randy Hanson, who also currently serves as a Court Security Officer at the Sweetwater County Justice Center, has been named the Sheriff’s Office new Sweetwater Seniors’ Liaison Deputy.

Hansen has begun visiting the Young at Heart Senior Center in Rock Springs and the Golden Hour Senior Center in Green River on a weekly basis to meet with seniors and discuss issues of particular importance to them, including protecting themselves from scams and frauds, home safety, prescription drug diversion, and elder abuse.

Hansen, who retired not long ago from the Rock Springs Police Department, served in a similar capacity for the RSPD for 15 years under current Sheriff Mike Lowell.

“Seniors can be particularly vulnerable and we feel that it’s important to extend our protection to them through programs like this,” Lowell said.  “Randy’s work with our senior community was highly successful, and we’re glad to bring it back now and extend the program to include Green River, as well.”
