SWEETWATER COUNTY — The Sweetwater County Historical Museum is hosting a trek, featuring several historical and natural sites in southern Sweetwater County on Sunday, August 23. Local historian and trails authority Don Hartley will lead the day trip to several historic locations including Powder Springs, Adobe Town and Dug Springs. Award-winning photographer Paul Ng will accompany Hartley to offer picture-taking tips and mini photo workshops at select stops along the tour route.
Tour participants will meet at the Rock Springs Chamber of Commerce, 1897 Dewar Drive, at 7:45 a.m. and return at approximately 3:00 p.m.
The tour is provided by the museum and participants are responsible for their own transportation and supplies.
Vehicles must be capable of going on rough dirt roads and have a full tank of gas and good tires. Participants should also bring their own water, food, sunscreen and insect repellant and be dressed for the outdoors with boots, hat, jacket, raingear and other clothing as appropriate. None of this will be provided.
Hartley advises tour participants: “Safety first! The area is remote and has limited cellphone service, rough roads and no services.” He adds, “Take only pictures and leave only footprints.”
The tour and workshop is offered free of charge to the public by the Sweetwater County Historical Museum but donations are welcome. For more information, please call the museum at 307-872-6435.
