ROCK SPRINGS — The Sweetwater One Public School Foundation plans for the future.
The Foundation Board President Laura Schmid PIzzato shared, “Over the past seven years the School Foundation has evolved and continues to evolve with the strong support from the School Board, School Administration, Foundation Board members, donors and volunteers.”
In continuing the support of students of Sweetwater #1, the Foundation shared a few of their upcoming initiatives. At the end of this month, all Foundation scholarship applications for Sweetwater #1 High School students are due to the Foundation board by Tuesday, March 31, 2015. The generous scholarships are an excellent support for the students of Sweetwater #1 and the Foundation board looks forward to reviewing and ultimately rewarding the scholarships to deserving students.
Superintendent of Schools, Kelly McGovern said, “The Foundation provides scholarships, clothing and shoes for students and innovative grants for staff. The District is fortunate to have the Foundation to bridge the gap between education and meeting the unique needs of all students.”
With a total of 7 scholarships to award and a value totaling $9,000 dollars the Foundation hopes for many applicants.
In addition, to the scholarships, the board revealed the date for the 7th annual Golf Tournament taking place on Sunday, July 12, 2015, with additional details coming in the near future.
Foundation Board member and Kari’s Access Award’s Founder, Larry Fusselman said, “The Sweetwater One Public School Foundation is about helping kids! Kari’s Access Awards provides scholarships and resources to students that need some additional help.”
Kari’s Access Awards committee is already planning the next “fun” fundraising event, the Benefit Barbeque, to be held at Marty’s Gastro Pub on August 15, 2015.
He went on to say, “I feel fortunate to live in a very supportive and generous community where paying it forward is a priority!”
Additional board members shed light on the Foundation and what it means to them.
Bob Arambel, Vice President said, “From day one the Foundation has always been about kids and we are happy to report that it has contributed nearly half a million dollars to students and we plan to continue to push in a positive direction. “
“My kids have benefited from the Foundation in the schools and now it is my turn to give back.” Jim Sedey, Foundation board member said.
Alice Paul explained that the Foundation has fabulous volunteers and the board members are great to work with and said, “One of my favorite things to participate in is the back to school shopping with the students. The Back to School Shopping, funded by Larry Fusselman, provides students with clothes, shoes, socks, winter apparel and school supplies. Truly a blessing for those families.”
Lastly, the school board Liaison, Neil Kourbelas expressed how impressed he has been with the Foundation board and although he cannot speak for the board he shared his commitment to the Sweetwater One Public School Foundation.
