GILLETTE – Months of hard work, early mornings and late nights come down to one final tournament as swimmers around the state will make their way to Gillette this weekend to battle for state medals.
The Rock Springs Tigers finished a strong season with a 10-2 record in duals and third at the 4A West Conference meet. Along they way, the Tigers built a strong team that will make the state trip.
To make state, swimmers much meet a state qualifying standard. Not only did several Tigers meet and beat the time, they also hold several of the fastest times in the state.
Darwin Anderson is the current 4A West Region champion in both the 100 and 200 free. At the conference championships, Anderson swam the fifth-fastest time in the state in the 100 free at 49.42. In the 200 free, he currently has the fastest time in the state at 1:47.64. He also met qualifying standards in the 50 free, 500 free, 100 back, 100 breast and 200 IM. He currently has the fastest time in the state in the 500 free as well as the 200 free.
Ron DeFauw also brought home regional titles in the 500 free and 200 IM. In the 500 free he currently has the fifth-best time in the state at 5:08.63 and eight best time in the 200 Im at 2:08.27. He has also qualified in the 100 free, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 100 fly. DeFauw also currently has the fifth-best time in the state in the 100 back at 57.61.
Bryan Monzon, Parker Newberg, James Spicer and Kade Thomas all brought home titles throughout the year and top-five finishes in several events at the 4A Conference Championships. Monzon met standards in the 50 free, 100, free, 200 free, 500 free, 100 back and 100 fly. He is currently 11th in both the 200 and 500 free.
James Spicer has qualified in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 500 free, 100 back and 100 fly. He currently holds the tenth-best time in the 100 back and sits in the top 20 in several other events.
Parker Newberg has also qualified for every event throughout the year. He currently is in the top 15Â in the 200 IM. Kade Thomas qualified for both the 100 breast and 200 IM. He currently has the best time on the team in the 100 breast and 12th best time in the state.
Johnathan Even will be the lone Tiger in diving this year. In a six-dive competition, Even currently ranks sixth best in the state. The Tigers have also qualified for several relay events. A list those qualified in relays
