Two Cowgirl Tennis Players Garner Postseason Honors

LARAMIE – Two members of the Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team, Nastya Tokareva and Magdalena Stencel, were recognized on Wednesday as the Mountain West announced the 2016 All-Conference Team. The MW awards are selected by the league’s 11 head coaches.

“Maggie is one of if not the toughest competitors we have had in this program,” UW head coach Dean Clower said. “Another All-Conference accolade is well-deserved for her and I expect more in the future. Nastya has been extremely influential to our program and a pillar at the two and three spots in our lineup. Her coachability and athleticism is the biggest reason her doubles play has reached the level it’s at.”

Tokareva and Stencel were selected to the All-Conference Doubles Team for the first time in their careers, while both were named First Team All-Conference in singles play. Stencel was an All-League selection in singles last season while this is a first such honor for Tokareva. It’s the eighth straight year that the Cowgirl Tennis program has been recognized in either singles or doubles.

Stencel, a sophomore from Sopot, Poland, has posted a 21-12 overall record and a 13-7 mark this spring from the number one singles position. She went 4-1 in league action and ranks 24th in singles wins with 39 career victories.

Tokareva is currently 21-13 in singles action, going 13-8 in dual play. A senior from Moscow, Russia, she posted a 4-1 mark in MW action at the number two spot.

The duo also sported a 4-1 record in league action while posting a 12-9 mark during the spring. Stencel has 31 career doubles wins while Tokareva has 19 victories during her two-year career.

The Cowgirls, who are seeded sixth, open up the 2016 MW Tournament against the 11th-seeded Colorado State Rams. The match is set for Thursday beginning at 2 p.m. MT at the University Tennis Center in Ft. Collins.
