SWEETWATER COUNTY — Eden Valley Telehealth Services, dba: Big Sandy Clinic this year received a $30,000 grant from United Way of Southwest Wyoming. This year’s funding will be used for enhancing community partnerships and providing Senior programs, along with continued health care for anyone in need.

Big Sandy Clinic is located in Farson, where the population is approximately 500 people. Bringing efficient, cost-effective, quality healthcare to the rural resident, rather than having the resident travel to a healthcare provider whenever possible.

Established in 2013, United Way of Southwest Wyoming has been instrumental in continuing to support the clinic since the initial start-up.

The clinic has also continued their partnership this year with Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County. Dr. Jake Johnson, DO, is at the clinic one day a week to see patients regardless of their ability to pay. Those who have insurance, the hospital will bill, for those without insurance and the inability to pay the full amount, the clinic can supplement, according to a sliding fee scale. Dr. Kal Sellers, who drives down from Afton once a week, also sees patients for Chiropractic care regardless of ability to pay. Dr. Sellers has been seeing patients since 2014, with a good clientele base.

With this year’s funding the clinic has been able to provide a monthly luncheon, and for any Senior interested a pedicure in the relaxing massage chairs at the clinic which has also been very helpful for Diabetic patients.

The partnerships formed with the local church groups, school clubs, and community organizations provide the meal once a month that encourages involvement for Seniors in health awareness, mental health, and preventive care. “With the luncheon event, for many of our Senior’, it may be the only social contact and outing event for the month,” reported Director Mary Anne Mines.

For those Senior’ unable to leave their home the sponsoring group also delivers. “The monthly luncheon is provided at the Eden Valley Community Center, a beautiful building, and a wonderful location for the Senior’ to get together for an afternoon with friends and a hot meal, stated Morgan Goicolea. This is the only Senior event in our community as we don’t have a Senior Center. “

Eden Valley Telehealth Services, on Highway 28, is open Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 3 pm. Both doctors are in the building on Tuesdays, and the clinic many times upon request and need will extend hours.
