CHEYENNE – Rocky Mountain Power announced that the University of Wyoming will receive funding to help renovate the university’s 51.5 kilowatt solar system. The money will be used to replace all of the solar panels and inverters on a ground-mounted solar system installed in 1996.
“The new solar panels will be highly visible because they are near the University of Wyoming’s football stadium, basketball arena and other athletic facilities,” said Harold Babbitt, Rocky Mountain Power customer and community manager. “The solar panels will also provide a very visual lesson for students about the benefits of renewable energy.”
The University of Wyoming was established in 1886 and provides undergraduate and graduate programs to 13,800 students. The university recently created a sustainability minor that includes independent study projects focusing on campus sustainability issues.
For more than a decade, Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program has provided an easy and convenient way for customers to support renewable energy development in the western United States. There are currently more than 4,200 Blue Sky customers in Wyoming. For more information about Blue Sky, visit rockymountainpower.net/bluesky.
“Blue Sky is just one example of Rocky Mountain Power’s commitment to renewable energy and providing customers with the energy choices they want, while also keeping our prices and policies fair to all customers,” said Babbitt.
Separate from Blue Sky, support for renewable energy by Rocky Mountain Power, PacifiCorp and parent company Berkshire Hathaway Energy includes:
- As part of PacifiCorp, the company owns and operates 13 wind projects. Among rate-regulated utilities, PacifiCorp is the second-largest owner of wind resources in the country. Its sister company in the Midwest is the largest.
- Berkshire Hathaway Energy has invested $7 billion in solar and wind projects including Topaz and the nearly completed Solar Star, the two largest solar projects in the world.
