Wyoming Highway Patrol Reminds Drivers to Stay Safe Over the Holiday Weekend

CHEYENNE – To remind residents about staying safe over the holiday, the Wyoming Highway Patrol passed along some important information on Friday.

“Here in the Cowboy State, we value our independence greatly. As we celebrate our independence this Fourth of July, let’s also value our safety.

Rollover crashes with an unrestrained occupant continues to be one of the deadliest crashes in Wyoming. As of today, 25 fatalities in Wyoming have fallen into this group for 2015. In 2014, 47 highway deaths were attributed to this crash category. Potentially, 72 lives could have been saved in Wyoming in a year and a half by simply wearing their seat belts.

Did you know that you can put your seat belt on faster than you can send that Fourth of July text, tweet or post? In 2013, there were 512 people killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes over the Fourth of July holiday nationwide. We can help lower that number this holiday weekend by simply buckling up, driving sober and putting the distractions away while behind the wheel.

We hope you have a fun and safe Fourth of July weekend! Drive safe Wyoming!”
