ROCK SPRINGS – The Lady Tigers and Lady Wolves both had good starts to the conference season. The rivals will meet on Thursday as they both continue to jockey for position.
With non-conference behind them, the Rock Springs Lady Tigers opened conference with wins over Riverton and Evanston. Green River also showed they learned quite a bit from non-conference play. They fell to Evanston to open conference but had the lead with two minutes to go in the game. They game back two days later to beat Riverton by 15 points.
Both teams are pretty evenly matched offensively. The Lady Tigers are currently eighth in the conference in scoring averaging 45 points a game while Green River is 10th averaging right around 40 a game. Rock Springs averages a better shooting percentage, 38 percent to 31 percent, but Green River is stronger on the boards averaging 31 per game while Rock Springs sits at 23.
The teams are also similar defensively with Green River giving up 47.6 a game and Rock Springs 50.7.
The Lady Tigers are led by Stevie Hill, who is second in the 4A West in scoring with 15 a game. She also leads the team in rebounding with five boards a game, second on the team in assists with two a game and leads the team in steals with 2.2 a game.
Maggie Justinak has also been solid for the team. She is averaging just under 10 points per game, averaging 4.7 boards a game, as well as two assists and two steals a game. Sarye Thomas leads the team in assists with three per game while Bailey Johnson leads the 4A West in blocked shots.
For Green River, the offense runs through Emily White and Taylor Stoeger. White is sixth in the 4A West in scoring averaging 11 points a game. Stoeger is eighth with 9.5 per game.
White is second in the conference in rebounding with seven a game while Stoeger is in the top ten with five per contest. Hattie Hix is third in the conference on the boards, pulling down six a game. Stoeger is second in the conference in assists, dishing out 4.5 dimes a game and first in steals with 4.3 a contest. Averee Cobb is second in the conference in steals with right around three per contest.
Lady Pronghorns
Farson-Eden had a decent, non-conference run but has struggled in conference play as they continue to look for that first win. The Lady Pronghorns will travel to Hanna Elk Mountain on Friday before returning home to face Manila on Saturday.
FE is currently ninth in the conference in scoring averaging 36.7 per game. Defensively, they surrender right around 39 a game.
Mackenzi Reed has been the spark on offense averaging 11 points per game. She is currently eighth in the conference. Carly Griffin leads the team and is sixth in conference in rebounding with just under eight a game. Griffin is also among the leaders in blocked shots.
