Cowgirls Place Eight on All-MW Team

200 free and 400 medley relays honored as well
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –The University of Wyoming Cowgirl swimming and diving team placed eight individuals and two relay’s on the All-Mountain West swimming and diving team, announced by the conference on Monday.
All-Conference honors are awarded to the top eight finishers in the individual events and top three relay team finishers at the 2016 MW Championships held in College Station, Texas, last week.
Of the eight Cowgirls, Emily Ridout and Isobel Ryan led the way with three individual honors each. They were both named All-MW in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 breast. Additionally, both Ridout and Ryan were a part of the 200 free and 400 medley relay teams to garner the honors as well. Six Cowgirls earned multiple accolades.
Kari Campbell was named All-MW for the third time in her career, while Keely Bishop earned the honors for the second time. Campbell earned All-MW in the 1-meter and platform diving events, as Bishop earned the accolades in the platform.
Molly Coonce earned All-MW in the 100 and 200 fly, as fellow senior Emma Dow was named All-MW in the 400 IM. Maria Harutjunjan and Kelly Sheldon were the only sophomores for Wyoming to earn all-conference honors. Harutjunjan earned the accolades in the 100 and 200 breast, as Sheldon did so in the 500 free and 200 back.

Derner and Cowgirls Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors
LARAMIE – Cowboy senior Aaron Derner and the University of Wyoming women’s cross country team earned All-Academic awards from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) last Friday.
The Cowgirls were named a USTFCCCA All-Academic team for a 10th-straight year, while Derner is the second Cowboy to earn All-Academic Individual in the last three years.
The Cowgirls posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.21 to finish as one of the six Mountain West women’s programs to earn the accolade. To qualify a team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater for the 2015 roster and competed at an NCAA Regional Meet.
Derner sports a 3.75 GPA in international studies and history and was one of just 14 student-athletes in the Mountain West to claim the individual award, including just four males. Honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or greater and earned All-America or All-Region accolades during the season.
UW Takes Sixth Place in the 20-Team Field
PALM DESERT, Calif. – The University of Wyoming Cowboy golf team concluded action at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Sunday, at The Classic Club golf course in Palm Desert, Calif.
The Cowboys settled in sixth place with a score of 885 (+21). Cal Poly, who had the lowest score of the final day with an 878 (+14), finished in fifth, only seven strokes ahead of the Pokes.
“We know how competitive all these teams are,” Wyoming head coach Joe Jensen said. “I was happy with how we played this weekend. We will look to continue to improve as we get more into this spring season.”
Senior Kamrin Allen carded a tournament low for UW, shooting a 70 (-2) to end the tournament. He finished as the top Cowboy tied for 19th place. Sophomore Drew McCullough finished the tournament tied 26th after shooting a 77 on Sunday afternoon, which brought his total to 222 (+6).
Junior Ryan Wallen recorded a 75 (+3) on Sunday to tie him for 35th. Quintin Pope shot a third-round mark of 74 (+2), and ended the tournament in 66th place. Following Pope, sophomore Glenn Workman rounded out the Wyoming lineup with a score of 73 (+1) on Sunday.
Sophomore Arron Lickteig and freshman John Murdock played as individuals. Lickteig improved his play on the last day, carding a 73 (+1) to finish 45th. Murdock notched a 77 (+5) on the final day to conclude his tournament.
Kansas totaled a score of 866 (+2) to take home the crown, just out shooting the Colorado Buffalos by three strokes. The bronze went home with the Texas Tech Red Raiders as they completed the three-day tournament at 870 (+6). Sean Walsh of Gonzaga won the individual championship award with a three-day total of 209 (-7).

Gibson Shares Lead at Grand Canyon Invitational
Cowgirls Open in Fourth
PHOENIX, Ariz. – The University of Wyoming Cowgirl golf team kicked off action Monday at the 6,162- yard, par 71 Grand Canyon University Golf Course with a 310 (+26) to claim fourth place after round one. Gabrielle Gibson leads the Cowgirls and is atop the leaderboard with a first-round score of 74 (+3).
“It’s nice to have a solid start even with a few early season mistakes,” Cowgirl head coach Josey Stender said. “As a team and individually, the girls have done a great job sticking to our process. I look forward to building off of a good start the next few days.”
Gibson closed strong Monday, as the sophomore registered two birdies on the back nine. She led UW and totaled three birdies during the first round of play.
Megan Knadler is tied sixth after the opening round of play. She totaled a score of 76 (+5), while Kathleen Kershisnik is tied 16th with a day-one mark of 78 (+7). Playing as an individual, Kaylee Knadler recorded a 78 (+7) as well.
Emily Woodard, Mackenzie Barrie and Klara Castillo each kicked off their tournament with an 82 (+11). Barrie and Castillo are playing as individuals for Wyoming. Taylor Dorans is two shots behind sitting tied 64th with a first-round total of 84 (+13), and to round out the Cowgirls, Amanda Hinchey shot an 83 (+12) on the first day.
“The course is newly renovated so there were some inconsistencies with the conditions,” Stender added. “It is nothing we can’t work with and hope we will adapt tomorrow.”
The second round will begin tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. MT.
