
Behind six finalists, the Wolves only trail Campbell County by one point 162.5 to 161.5. Cheyenne East sits in third, 40 points out, while Laramie and Sheridan round out the top five. The Rock Springs Tigers moved from seventh to sixth late on Friday.
The Wolves had six wrestlers move into the finals on Saturday. Gillette will have five going for state titles. One important match will be at 106 as the two teams face each other.
Cyro Montoya won all three of his matches on Friday to earn a spot in the 106 finals. He will face Gillette’s Austin Cunningham for a state title on Saturday.
Caleb Nathan will also wrestle for a state title at 113. He beat Rock Springs Tiger Ashton Dupape by a 7-1 decision in Friday night’s semifinals to earn a spot in the championship.
At 120, Gage Byers used three wins by pin to move into the finals. He will face Laramie’s Arsenio Lemus in the finals.
Shandon Welsh will also represent Green River in the finals as he won his three matches on Friday. He handed Sheridan’s Wyatt Avery only his eighth loss of the season in a 10-7 decision to move into the final match on Saturday.
Ar 195, Brendan Hopkins scored three fall wins to move into the finals. He will face Rock Springs Tiger John Nowland for the state title.
Jordan Tucker is the final Green River wrestler who will wrestle for a title. In the 285 division, Tucker won three times including a tight 10-7 decision win over Tyler Anthony of Gillette in the semifinals.
Green River Wolves Justin Flores, Dan Mondragon, Talbert Bowen, Nathan McCann, Jacob Mortensen, Â Kaycee Cochrane, Â Ira Dickinson, Eric Clingenpeel, Zack Orr, Chance Anderson, Dylan VanGieson, Blake Waite and Keanu Hill are all still alive in the consolation brackets.
