4A State Basketball Wrap-Up

CASPER —The 4A state basketball tournament was held in Casper over the weekend, showcasing the best of the best as teams across the state competed for this year’s championships.

Both Rock Springs and Green River participated in the tournament. The Wolves’ boys and girls teams played in the tournament along with the Rock Springs boys team.

In the girls bracket, the Lady Wolves went in as the second seed in the west. Green River won their opening game against Cheyenne Central 59-37. It was the first time since 1998 that the Lady Wolves had reached the semifinals round.

In the semifinals, Green River lost to Cheyenne East 62-50. The loss knocked the Lady Wolves out of the championship bracket, giving them a matchup in the third place consolation championship against Sheridan where they lost 58-46.

As for the Green River boys, the quarterfinals matchup against Thunder Basin resulted in a 46-24 loss for the Wolves, sending them to the consolation bracket. In the consolation semifinals, the Wolves fell to Cheyenne East 71-65.

For the Tigers, the team played Cheyenne Central and lost 67-46. The Indians went on to win the state championship on Saturday.

In the semifinals consolation, Rock Springs faced off against a familiar Riverton team, but came up short 45-33 against the Wolverines.
