CHEYENNE — Wyoming’s COVID-19 Coronavirus recoveries outpaced the number of new cases this week, according to the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH).
As of today, the state has 3,097 active laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19, which is 2,039 less active cases since Monday. The state saw 1,463 new cases this week and 3,502 recoveries.
Hospitalizations stayed rather consistent this week, with the latest number of reported COVID-19 hospitalizations being 207 patients as of December 10, according to the WDH’s hospitalization report. On Monday, the state had 206 hospitalizations.
During a press conference with Dr. Alexia Harrist earlier this week, she said that while the state is seeing decreases in new cases and active cases, the state needs to see “sustained decline”.
On Monday, Governor Mark Gordon announced new health orders that went into effect on Wednesday. The orders included a statewide mask mandate, along with restrictions on hours of operation for bars and restaurants, and social distancing for salons, barber shops, and tattoo parlors.
Dr. Harrist said these orders were put into place as, “it has been clear that previous steps have not been efficient.”
Despite declining numbers in orders, Dr. Harrist said hospitals are still stressed and the demand remains high. Cheyenne Regional Medical Center has the most hospitalizations with 47 COVID-19 patients as of December 10. Wyoming Medical Center in Casper has the next most with 44 hospitalizations. Wyoming Medical Center is reporting that they have zero Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds available out of 20 beds.
The WDH also reported 22 more COVID-19 related deaths today, bringing the state’s total to 321 deaths. This is up from 280 on Monday.
Among Wyoming residents, there have now been 321 coronavirus-related deaths, 33,659 lab-confirmed cases and 5,126 probable cases reported since the pandemic began.
