Reverend John Johansen  (October 24, 1928 – June 2, 2014)

ROCK SPRINGS – Reverend John Johansen, 85, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2014 at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County.

He was born on October 24, 1928 in Pocatello, Idaho, the son of Jens and Maria Johansen.

Reverend Johansen attended schools in Pocatello and later graduated from Idaho State University in 1957. In 1967, he graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Illinois.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

Reverend Johansen married Maxine Brown on February 10, 1952 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

He served as a Lutheran Minister in Oklahoma, Nebraska and Wyoming for twenty six years.

After retirement, he continued to serve for several years as a vacancy minister throughout Wyoming.

His interests included family, reading and following his favorite sports teams.

Survivors include three daughters Karen Carter and husband Matthew, Sadie Johansen and Barbara Sell and husband Terry all of Rock Springs, Wyoming; granddaughters Dana Bijold and husband Brad of Arvada, Colorado, Julie Raney and husband Gary of Broomfield, Colorado and Maria Barry and husband Jason of Twentynine Palms, California; grandsons James Sell and Andrew Sell both of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Mark Sell of Laramie, Wyoming; brothers Clarence Johansen of Denver, Colorado and Robert Johansen of San Bruno, California; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, parents, and two brothers.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 9, 2014 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 3101 College Drive, Rock Springs, Wyoming. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the church on Monday, one hour prior to services.
