SWEETWATER COUNTY — Natrona County handed both Green River and Rock Springs losses over the weekend, with the Fillies defeating the Lady Tigers in four sets Friday before sweeping the No. 2-ranked Lady Wolves on Saturday.
Rock Springs opened the weekend at home Friday but fell to Natrona County 3-1, 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, 25-18.
The Lady Tigers split the first two sets, taking the second 25-20 after Natrona County won the opener 25-22. The Fillies regained control in the third set, winning 25-20, before closing out the match with a 25-18 fourth-set victory. The match was Rock Springs’ first home contest of the season after opening the year with tournaments at the Cheyenne Invitational and Border Wars.
Green River then hosted Natrona County on Saturday afternoon, with the Lady Fillies earning a 3-0 upset over the Lady Wolves, 25-18, 25-21, 25-22.
The loss came one week after Green River defeated Evanston 3-1 in a matchup between two of the state’s top-ranked teams. That victory moved the Lady Wolves up to No. 2 in the Wyoming Coaches and Media volleyball poll.
Despite the sweep, the Lady Wolves stayed within striking distance in each set Saturday, particularly in the second and third. Natrona County ultimately closed out each set to complete the conference victory.
Meanwhile, the Bridger Valley rivalry between Mountain View and Lyman produced another conference matchup Thursday, with No. 4 Mountain View defeating Lyman 3-1. The Lady Buffalos won the first two sets 25-14 and 25-15 before Lyman answered with a 25-17 victory in the third. Mountain View then closed the match with a 25-8 fourth-set win.
