SWEETWATER COUNTY — An Air Quality Alert for wildfire smoke has been issued for Sweetwater County through Saturday afternoon.
The United States National Weather Service issued a special statement on behalf of the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, Air Quality Division, and the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH).
According to the alert, western and central Wyoming will be impacted by smoke from 1 p.m. Friday, August 6, through 1 p.m., Saturday, August 7.
“Smoke from wildfires continues to be observed across much of western and central Wyoming,” the alert states. “The smoke is limiting visibilities at time and creating poor air quality.”
The WDH “recommends that the elderly, young children and individuals with respiratory problems avoid excessive physical exertion and minimize outdoor activities during this time.”
Wildfire smoke is made up of a variety of pollutants, including particulate matter and ozone, which can cause respiratory health effects, according to the alert.
