ROCK SPRINGS — Western Wyoming Community College and the WWCC Art Gallery Director, Florence McEwin, invite the community to celebrate the work of WWCC Art Students at an opening reception for the Spring 2016 end-of-semester show, “Transitions” on Friday, April 29, from 4:30 – 7 p.m. at the Rock Springs campus. This gallery show offers Western’s art students a chance to display the learning experiences they have enjoyed, and the variety of skills and techniques they have developed, within Western’s Foundation Art Program.
There will be a Ceramics sale at the reception, and refreshments will be served. Three Purchase Awards will be announced during the reception, one each by Western President Karla Leach, Vice President for Student Learning Kim Farley, and Dean of Academics Cliff Wittstruck. The students’ works have originated from their coursework in Photography, Ceramics, Design 3D, Design: Color, and Drawing II.
Photography, under the instruction of Adjunct Faculty Dan Cheek and Paul Ng, includes Photo I – the black-and-white traditional chemistry classes – and a Digital Imaging class. Ceramics includes all course levels of Ceramics I- IV, utilizing hand-built and wheel-thrown clay. Design 3D applies the elements of three-dimensional design – line, space, mass, and texture – to exercises in a variety of materials. The Ceramics and Design coursework is under the instruction of Adjunct Faculty Bart Fetz.
Design: Color employs the elements of shape, space, value, and line with the color development of cool/warm, light/dark, intense, and dull. In Drawing II course exercises, students utilize color with line techniques and shape. Design and Drawing courses are under the instruction of Professor of Art Florence McEwin, Ph.D. The advanced coursework within Drawing II and the upper-level Ceramics courses allow students a greater approach to individual development, and this creative freedom is reflected in their works on exhibit.
The Purchase Awards to be announced during the “Transitions” reception on April 29 are intended to celebrate the learning process within art and are awarded to foundation students’ works.
“Transitions,” a display of student works from Western’s Foundation Art Program, will run from April 29 until Aug. 16. Visitors are welcome to view the exhibit at any time. The WWCC Art Gallery is open daily and on weekends whenever the Rock Springs campus is open.
