AVCA Selects Beach for All-Region Honorable Mention

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has named Laura Beach to the Pacific North Region team as an honorable mention selection, the organization announced Tuesday. Beach is the first Cowgirl to earn AVCA All-Region honors since Jodi Purdy in 2012. Only eight other UW players have ever been selected for All-Region distinction, with two earning All-American status.

Beach is one of three middle blockers from the Mountain West on this year’s team to receive postseason recognition, joining Boise State’s Maddy O’Donnell and Colorado State’s Kirstie Hillyer. She is also one of five MW players to be named to the All-Pacific North team, and Wyoming is represented as one of three conference schools on the list. Shawn Garus of Boise State was also recognized as coach of the year in the Pacific North Region. Furthermore, UNLV’s Bree Hammel earned honorable mention on the Pacific South All-Region team.

Beach was the fourth Cowgirl to earn All-MW honors at least three times and closed out her career with the most efficient hitting percentage in program history. She earned the top spot with a .372 hitting percentage while wearing the Brown and Gold. Additionally, she is fifth with 438 total blocks and 12th with 982 kills.

Beach led the team with 295 kills and a .399 hitting percentage this past season. She started in all 31 matches for the Cowgirls and ended her outstanding career with 109 consecutive starts. Her hitting percentage led the MW and was 14th in the NCAA. It was also the fourth-best in Wyoming single-season history.

This year marks the 18th consecutive season that the MW has been represented on the AVCA All-Region squads. Since 1999, 98 MW student-athletes have earned All-Region accolades with players garnering All-America status 68 times.

AVCA All-American selections are to be announced next week on December 14.
